Discounts
Use discounts to reduce the price of assigned products when their criteria are met. A discount does nothing until you assign it to at least one product.
Discounts can use a percentage or a fixed amount. They can also check a participant's age, answers, prior purchases, lineup, registration date, or number of assigned products purchased in the same season. When you combine criteria, every configured criterion must match.
Create a discount
Go to Registration > Discounts, then click New discount.
- Enter a clear Name.
- Enter either Percent or Fixed Amount. Do not enter both.
- Leave Enabled checked.
- Add only the criteria that should restrict the discount.
- Click Save.
- Open every product that should use the discount and add it under Discounts.
Test the finished setup with the same combination of products and participants that your members will use. Discount combinations can be correct individually and still produce an unexpected result when they qualify together.
Multi-item discounts
A multi-item discount uses Number of Products to count assigned products purchased by the same participant in the same season. It does not combine purchases from different participants.
Every product that should count toward the threshold must:
- require a participant
- have the discount assigned
- meet the discount's other criteria
- belong to the same Curling IO season as the other qualifying purchases
Completed purchases from an earlier order can count. Items in an abandoned or unfinished checkout do not count.
Exact numbers and "or more"
The option you choose determines both the threshold and which items receive the discount.
| Number of Products | Result with three qualifying items |
|---|---|
| Two | Only the second-ranked item receives the discount. |
| Two or more | The second-ranked item and every later item receive the discount. |
| Three | Only the third-ranked item receives the discount. |
| Three or more | The third-ranked item and every later item receive the discount. |
The same pattern continues for the higher options.
"Two or more" does not mean that the discount starts after two purchases. The second qualifying item receives it. If the same participant has three qualifying items, the second and third receive it.
Which item is second?
For a percentage discount, Curling IO ranks qualifying items from highest price to lowest price. Two therefore applies the percentage to the second highest-priced item. Two or more applies it to the second highest-priced item and every lower-priced item.
For a fixed-amount discount, Curling IO uses the purchase line-item order. The first qualifying item does not receive a Two or Two or more discount. The second qualifying item is the first one that can receive it.
Purchases made in separate orders
Curling IO counts active completed purchases from earlier orders when they are for the same participant and season. For example, if a participant already bought one assigned league, buying a second assigned league in a later order can satisfy Two or Two or more.
If a percentage discount should have applied to an earlier purchase because of a later registration, Curling IO can report a retroactive discount opportunity for review. A retroactive opportunity does not automatically refund or change the earlier order.
Seasonal per participant
Use Seasonal per participant? when a participant should not receive this same discount again in a later order during the same season.
This setting is separate from Number of Products. It does not turn Two or more into Two. If a participant puts three qualifying products in one cart, Two or more can still discount the second and third items. After that discount is used, Seasonal per participant? prevents it from applying again to the participant in another order for that season.
Make a discount exclusive
Check Exclusive of all other discounts? when this discount should not be combined with another qualifying discount on the same item.
Exclusivity is evaluated separately for each item receiving a discount:
- If a non-exclusive discount also qualifies for the item, Curling IO keeps the non-exclusive discount and drops this exclusive discount.
- If every qualifying discount is exclusive, Curling IO applies the one that gives the greatest reduction.
This means "exclusive" does not guarantee that this particular discount wins. It prevents stacking and lets the applicable exclusivity rules select the surviving discount.
Example: fixed amount off the second league
Suppose a club wants each participant to receive a fixed discount when they register for a second assigned league, but not stack it with other discounts.
- Create a discount and enter the amount under Fixed Amount.
- Choose Two under Number of Products if only the second qualifying league should receive it.
- Choose Two or more instead if the second and every later qualifying league should each receive it.
- Check Exclusive of all other discounts?.
- Assign the discount to every league that should count and be eligible to receive it.
- Make sure each assigned league requires a participant.
- Test carts with one, two, and three qualifying leagues. Also test a cart in which another discount qualifies.
Do not describe this setup as simply "a discount after two leagues." That is ambiguous about whether the second league receives the discount and whether later leagues receive it too.
Troubleshooting
If the discount does not apply, check these first:
- Is the discount Enabled?
- Is it assigned to every product that must count and receive it?
- Does each product require a participant?
- Are the qualifying items assigned to the same participant?
- Are the items in the same Curling IO season?
- Do all other criteria match, including age, answers, dates, or participant restrictions?
- Has Seasonal per participant? already limited a later use?
- Is another qualifying discount changing the result through exclusivity?
Use custom questions when eligibility depends on an answer collected during registration. Also review the registration setup best practices before opening registration.
